Summerseat is a small village nestled on the wooded banks of the River Irwell,
roughly midway between Bury,Lancashire and Ramsbotttom.
Summerseat's origins lie initially with Agriculture, and then with the Cotton Trade,
with several mills operating in and around the village at the peak of this era. Indeed, the last of the mills only closed well into the latter half of the
20th Century
Situated right next to Junction 1 of the M66, 4 miles north of Bury,
the village has excellent communications links with Manchester city centre only
12 miles away and Manchester's Ringway Airport,
and Liverpool's John Lennon Airport within a 45 minute drive.
The East Lancashire Light Railway runs along the valley, with a station in the village.
Summer days often see the sky
dotted with the distinctive cotton wool clouds from the steam
trains climbing the grade out of the village towards Ramsbottom or Bury
